First Impressions of Liverpool

This is the view new arrivals get of Liverpool as they step off the ferry at one of the ferry terminals along this part of the waterfront. This photo was taken just as one of the Manx Steam Packet ferries was unloadng, hence all the people.

From this location Liverpool does exude a certain air of confidence, there are a lot of substantial buildings nearby and a feeling of great space as well.

The other thing I found very special and particular to Liverpool in this photo is the range of architectural styles on display. At the far left is the modern (albeit rather undistinguished) Beetham West, and in front of it two very harsh and brutal designs... the modern Malmaison Hotel on the left and the City Exchange to the right (locally known as the sandcastle. further right are the Unity Towers and the Altantic Tower Hotel (the stripy one that looks like a ship's bow). Then is the historic St Nicholas' Church and finally the three graces of the pierhead... The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and The Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Building (or Port of Liverpool building.)
