The Leopard
The leopard is the most elusive of the 'big five' safari animals (the others are buffalo, rhino, lion and elephant) and witnessing one in the wild is a rare treat for visitors to the Serengeti.
Leopards are solitary creatures, coming together only to mate. They spend most of the day sleeping in trees or in riverside undergrowth and hunt at night in the same concealed locations. This means that despite being the most numerous of the African big cats, they are also the most difficult to find.
This leopard was found by our guide well away from the herds of Jeep that roam the Serengeti. He knew the territory well and knew where they were likely to be hiding out. He also had to drive off the designated path to reach this girl. It was well worth it as very few tourists ever get this close to a leopard; so well done to him.
